Studying Oil Sands Reclamation Optimization
As part of the oil sands industry, roads are constructed to provide easy access to remote sites such as well pads. These roads cross a variety of ecosystem types and have the potential to both interact with and alter the regular ecosystem function.
Through collaborations with industry partners, AU Hydrology is evaluating the impact of linear features and in-situ infrastructure on wetlands hydrology and waterfowl habitat. This research will help to reduce environmental impact on future road construction in areas which are prone to disturbance.
This project is a collaboration between the University of Waterloo's Wetland Soils and Greenhouse Gas Exchange lab, University of Calgary's Applied Geospatial Research Group and Duck's Unlimited Canada. See below to learn more!
